The Slings-family in the United States
Huibrecht Slings (1854-1930), greatgrandson of our common ancestor Isaac,
was a very enterprising man. In 1888 he fled the poor living of Dinteloord and moved
with his wife Adriana van Saarloos and his five children to the shortly been reclaimed
Houtrakpolder in North-Holland. But he still wanted to reach more and in 1914 he emigrated
with seven of his meanwhile ten children to the U.S.A. Three boys -- Nuit, Cornelis and
Johannes -- stayed behind, and have become the ancestors of the North-Holland Slingses.
Huibrecht and his children established in Pella, Iowa. There -- and in the
surrounding places Oskaloosa, Prairy City, Sully and Newton -- are living still
many Slingses (rough estimation: about 80). Some of them are living in and around Grand
Rapids (Michigan).
Till now every summer there has been a Slings-reünion, in turns in Pella and Newton. Till
some decades ago everybody attended this meetings, but now only the older generation
meets eachother.
