Met U2 op weg naar Pasen

Inhoud

Inleiding

You can feel the enemy!

Goede Vrijdag

In de tekst zijn we bij het kruis op Golgotha waar de discipelen vertwijfeld uitroepen: Oh, where do we go, Where do we go from here? Where to go? To the side of a hill, Blood was spilt. We were still looking at each other. But we're going back there?
YouTube video Tekst

Dan het nummer wat mij altijd erg raakt: Untill the End of the World. From there the song takes on a life of its own and sails into the familiar territory of pain, confusion and forgiveness by narrating the story of Judas' betrayal of Jesus.

We were meant for each other, you and I. YouTube video Tekst

Vertwijfeling. En nog eens wachten en vragen: Jesus, I'm waiting here, boss, I know you're looking out for us, But maybe your hands aren't free. Beluister en bekijk Wake Up, Dead Man Tekst

"In your eyes alone, I see the lights of home."

The heart that hurts is a heart that beats. YouTube video Tekst

'I will sing a new song''  (uit Psalm 6). Pasen

Na de 40 dagen tijd, de Stille Week, Witte Donderdag, Goede Vrijdag en Stille Zaterdag is het eindelijk Pasen. Feest!! Hij is opgestaan. Gezegend Pasen! It’s a Beautiful Day!!!  YouTube video Tekst (bij voorkeur keihard beluisteren)

Windows in the Skies: the stone it has been moved.......Oh can't you see what love has done? YouTube video Tekst

The Miracle: in Songs of Innocence vertelt U2 hun levensverhaal. YouTube video Tekst

"I was there when they crucified my Lord. I held the scabbard when the soldier drew his sword
I threw the dice when they pierced his side. But I've seen love conquer the great divide"

En als je nog tijd over hebt beluister dan Amazing Grace wat prachtig vloeiend overloopt in het verlangen naar het leven hierna: Where the Streets have No Name (dan kan het dak eraf!!!) YouTube video Tekst

2e Paasdag

I Still Haven’t Found what I’m Looking For.

U2 belijdt krachtig hun geloof in dit nummer: ‘You broke the bonds and you loosed the chains, carried the cross of my shame, you know I believe it!’ En later ‘I believe in the Kingdom come, then all the colors will bleed into one’. Maar daar tussenin, in die tijd is er ruimte voor ‘but I still haven’t found what I’m looking for....en....yes, I'm still running.'

Samen! YouTube video Tekst

13 There is a Light

Hou vol! YouTube video Tekst

MacPhisto: [sings] "Even the greatest stars... discover themself in the looking glass...
"Hello. "Good evening. Don MacPhisto at su servicio. What's that smell? Oh... I believe it's the stench... of liberal...democracy. Is that what it is?
Maybe... The Hague? Is that what it is? So many bridges around here. You need to buildsome walls.
To keep out all the different people that you don't want in Europe.Because... you don't want to be a part of Europe, 'cos it's full of foreigners.
And we don't like f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-- foreigners!
I don't like... foreigners. What's the point in all these different languages, if people insist on understanding each other? I've an idea.MacPhisto for Europe! That's the ticket. Whaddya say, Amsterdam? MacPhisto for Europe!
And you cerebral types – just remember... it's when you don't believe I exist – that's when I do... my best work.
Don't believe what you hear. Don't believe what you see. If you just close your eyes... you can feel the enemy!"

Don't believe what you hear, don't believe what you see. If you just close your eyes you can feel the enemy.
When I first met you girl, you had fire in your soul. What happened t'your face of melting snow
Now it looks like this! And you can swallow or you can spit. You can throw it up, or choke on it
And you can dream, so dream out loud. You know that your time is coming round
So don't let the bastards grind you down.

No, nothing makes sense, nothing seems to fit. I know you'd hit out if you only knew who to hit.
And I'd join the movement. If there was one I could believe in. Yeah, I'd break bread and wine
If there was a church I could receive in. 'Cause I need it now. To take the cup, To fill it up, to drink it slow. I can't let you go.

And I must be an acrobat, To talk like this and act like that. And you can dream, so dream out loud. And don't let the bastards grind you down.

What are we going to do now it's all been said? No new ideas in the house, and every book's been read.

And I must be an acrobat. To talk like this and act like that.
And you can dream, so dream out loud. And you can find your own way out. And you can build, and I can will
And you can call, I can't wait until You can stash and you can seize in dreams begin responsibilities
And I can love, and I can love. And I know that the tide is turning 'round. So don't let the bastards grind you down.

With a Shout (Jerusalem)

Oh, where do we go, Where do we go from here? Where to go? To the side of a hill. Blood was spilt.
We were still looking at each other. But we're going back there?

Jerusalem, Jerusalem

Shout, shout, with a shout
Shout it out, shout
Shout it out.

I want to go, to the foot of Mount Zion. To the foot of He who made me see. To the side of a hill blood was spilt
We were filled with a love. And we're going to be there again

Jerusalem, Jerusalem

Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Jerusalem

Shout, shout, with a shout. Shout, with a shout.

Untill the End of the World

Haven't seen you in quite a while, I was down the hold, just passing time.
Last time we met it was a low-lit room. We were as close together as a bride and groom.
We ate the food, we drank the wine. Everybody having a good time except you.
You were talking about the end of the world.

I took the money, I spiked your drink. You miss too much these days if you stop to think.
You led me on with those innocent eyes. And you know I love the element of surprise.
In the garden I was playing the tart. I kissed your lips and broke your heart.
You, you were acting like it was the end of the world.

In my dream, I was drowning my sorrows. But my sorrows they'd learned to swim
Surrounding me, going down on me. Spilling over the brim
Waves of regret and waves of joy. I reached out for the one I tried to destroy.
You, you said you'd wait till the end of the world.

Gedicht William Blake - The Divine Image

To Mercy, Pity, Peace, and Love
All pray in their distress;
And to these virtues of delight
Return their thankfulness.

For Mercy, Pity, Peace, and Love
Is God, our father dear,
And Mercy, Pity, Peace, and Love
Is Man, his child and care.

For Mercy has a human heart,
Pity a human face,
And Love, the human form divine,
And Peace, the human dress.

Then every man, of every clime,
That prays in his distress,
Prays to the human form divine,
Love, Mercy, Pity, Peace.

And all must love the human form,
In heathen, Turk, or Jew;
Where Mercy, Love, and Pity dwell
There God is dwelling too.

Mercy

I was drinking some wine
And it turned to blood
What's the use of religion
If you're only good

I know I'm weed killer, honey
And you're sugar
If you're the prosecution
I get away with murder

You're gravity searching for the ground
Your silence searching for a sound

Your heart is aching
Your heart is my home
It's fascinating
I know I'll never be alone

You wanna kill me and I wanna die
We were meant for each other, you and I
Like time in a bed of rust
Like the rhyme of love and lust I’m not sorry, you're not gonna cry
You put the blue back in my eye
It's just us
Because, because, because we can
We must

If you're hunger, baby let me feed it
If your heart is full, baby let me bleed it
And happiness is for those who don't really need it
I know you love me too much

You wanna kill me and I wanna die
We're a perfect match, you and I
Neither can you resist
And neither can you trust I'm not sorry, you're not gonna cry
You put the blue back in my eye
It's just us
Because, because, because we can
We must
I’m a lover
I’m a lover
Dying, yeah, yeah

You wanna kill me and I wanna die
A perfect match, you and I
Like time in a bed of rust
Like the ramp of love and lust

I'm not sorry, you're not gonna cry
You put the blue back in my eye
It's just us
Because, because, because we can
We must
Because, because, because we can
We must
Because, because, because we can
We must

Wake up dead man

Jesus, Jesus help me. I'm alone in this world. And a fucked-up world it is too.
Tell me, tell me the story, the one about eternity. And the way it's all gonna be.

Wake up, wake up dead man. Wake up, wake up dead man.

Jesus, I'm waiting here, boss. I know you're looking out for us
But maybe your hands aren't free.

Your Father, He made the world in seven. He's in charge of heaven. Will you put a word in for me?

Wake up, wake up dead man. Wake up, wake up dead man.

Lights of Home

I shouldn’t be here cause I should be dead. I can see the lights in front me. I believe my best days are ahead
I can see the lights in front of me. Oh Jesus if I’m still your friend. What the hell, what the hell you got for me
I’ve got to get out from under my bed. To see again the lights in front of me. Hey, I’ve been waiting to get home a long time

Hey now, do you know my name? Hey now. Or where I’m going? If I can’t get an answer, In your eyes I see it
The lights of home. The lights of home

I was born from a screaming sound. I could see the lights in front of me. I thought my head was harder than ground
I could see the lights in front of me. One more push and I’ll be born again. One more road you can’t travel with a friend.
Saw a statue of a gold guitar. Bright lights right in front of me. Hey, I’ve been waiting to get home a long time.

Hey now, Do you know my name? Hey now, or where I’m going? If I can’t get an answer, In your eyes I see it.
The lights of home. The lights of home.
Hey now, Do you know my name? Hey now. Or where I’m going? If I can’t get an answer. In your eyes I see it
In your eyes alone, I see the lights of home

Free yourself to be yourself. If only you could see yourself. If only you could
Free yourself to be yourself. If only you could see yourself. If only you could
Free yourself to be yourself. If only you could see yourself. If only you could
Free yourself to be yourself. If only you could see yourself. If only you could see

One Step Closer

I'm around the corner from anything that's real. I'm across the road from hope. I'm under a bridge in a rip tide
That's taken everything I call my own.

One step closer to knowing. One step closer to knowing

I'm on an island at a busy intersection. I can't go forward, I can't turn back. Can't see the future
It's getting away from me. I just watch the tail lights glowing

One step closer to knowing. One step closer to knowing. One step closer to knowing, dnowing, knowing

I'm hanging out to dry with my old clothes. Finger still red with the prick of an old rose.
Well the heart that hurts, is a heart that beats. Can you hear the drummer slowing

One step closer to knowing. One step closer to knowing. One step closer to knowing
To knowing, to knowing, to knowing.

40

I waited patiently for the Lord. He inclined and heard my cry. He brought me up out of the pit
Out of the mire and clay.
I will sing, sing a new song, I will sing, sing a new song.
How long to sing this song. How long to sing this song. How long, how long, how long, how long, to sing this song

He set my feet upon a rock. And made my footsteps firm. Many will see. Many will see and fear

I will sing, sing a new song, I will sing, sing a new song, I will sing, sing a new song, I will sing, sing a new song

How long to sing this song, How long to sing this song. How long, how long, how long. How long, to sing this song

Beautiful Day

The heart is a bloom, shoots up through stony ground, But there's no room, no space to rent in this town
You're out of luck and the reason that you had to care, The traffic is stuck and you're not moving anywhere.
You thought you'd found a friend to take you out of this place. Someone you could lend a hand in return for grace

It's a beautiful day, the sky falls. And you feel like it's a beautiful day, It's a beautiful day. Don't let it get away

You're on the road but you've got no destination. You're in the mud, in the maze of her imagination
You love this town even if it doesn't ring true. You've been all over and it's been all over you

It's a beautiful day. Don't let it get away. It's a beautiful day. Don't let it get away

Touch me, take me to that other place. Teach me, I know I'm not a hopeless case

See the world in green and blue, see China right in front of you. See the canyons broken by cloud
See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out. See the bedouin fires at night. See the oil fields at first light
See the bird with a leaf in her mouth. After the flood all the colours came out.
It was a beautiful day, A beautiful day. Don't let it get away

Touch me, take me to that other place. Reach me, I know Iím not a hopeless case

What you don't have you don't need it now. What you don't know you can feel it somehow
What you don't have you don't need it now, You don't need it now, you don't need it now
Beautiful day

Windows in the Skies

The shackles are undone. The bullets quit the gun. The heat that's in the sun. Will keep us when there's none
The rule has been disproved. The stone it has been moved. The grave is now a groove. All debts are removed

Oh can't you see what love has done? Oh can't you see what love has done? Oh can't you see what love has done?
What it's done to me?

Love makes strange enemies. Makes love where love may please. The soul and its striptease. Hate brought to its knees
The sky over our head. We can reach it from our bed. You let me in your heart. And out of my head, head

Oh can't you see what love has done? Oh can't you see what love has done? Oh can't you see what love has done?
What it's done to me?

Oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh, oh, oh. Please don't ever let me out of you. I've got no shame, oh no, oh no

Oh can't you see what love has done? Oh can't you see? Oh can't you see what love has done? What it's doing to me?

I know I hurt you and I made you cry. Did everything but murder you and I. But love left a window in the skies
And to love I rhapsodize. To every broken heart. For every heart that cries. Love left a window in the skies
And to love I rhapsodize

The Miracle

I was chasing down the days of fear. Chasing down a dream before it disappeared. I was aching to be somewhere near,
Your voice was all I heard. I was shaking from a storm in me, Haunted by the spectres that we had to see
Yeah I wanted to be the melody, Above the noise, above the hurt.

I was young, not dumb. Just wishing to be blinded, by you. Brand new. And we were pilgrims on our way
I woke up at the moment when the miracle occurred. Heard a song that made some sense out of the world
Everything I ever lost, now has been returned. In the most beautiful sound I’d ever heard.

We got language so we can’t communicate. Religion so I can love and hate. Music so I can exaggerate my pain, and give it a name

I was young, not dumb. Just wishing to be blinded. By you. Brand new. And we were pilgrims on our way

I woke up at the moment when the miracle occurred. Heard a song that made some sense out of the world
Everything I ever lost, now has been returned. In the most beautiful sound I’d ever heard.

We can hear you, We can hear you, We can hear you

I woke up at the moment when the miracle occurred. I get so many things I don’t deserve
All the stolen voices will someday be returned. The most beautiful sound I’d ever heard

Your voices will be heard. Your voices will be heard

When Loves Comes to Town

I was a sailor, I was lost at sea. I was under the waves before love rescued me. I was a fighter, I could turn on a thread
Now I stand accused of the things I've said.

When love comes to town I'm gonna jump that train. When love comes to town I'm gonna catch that flame.
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down. But I did what I did before love came to town.

Used to make love under a red sunset. I was making promises I was soon to forget.
She was pale as the lace of her wedding gown. But I left her standing before love came to town.

I ran into a juke-joint when I heard a guitar scream. The notes were turning blue, I was dazed and in a dream.
As the music played I saw my life turn around. That was the day before love came to town.

When love comes to town I'm gonna jump that train. When love comes to town I'm gonna catch that flame.
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down. But I did what I did before love came to town.

When love comes to town I'm gonna jump that train. When love comes to town I'm gonna catch that flame.
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down. But I did what I did before love came to town.

I was there when they crucified my Lord, I held the scabbard when the soldier drew his sword.
I threw the dice when they pierced his side. But I've seen love conquer the great divide.

Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down. But I did what I did before love came to town.

Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

Where the Streets have no Name

I wanna run, I want to hide, I wanna tear down the walls. That hold me inside. I wanna reach out
And touch the flame. Where the streets have no name.

I wanna feel sunlight on my face. I see the dust-cloud. Disappear without a trace.
I wanna take shelter. From the poison rain. Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name. Where the streets have no name.

We're still building and burning down love. Burning down love. And when I go there, I go there with you (It's all I can do).

The city's a flood, and our love turns to rust. We're beaten and blown by the wind. Trampled in dust. I'll show you a place
High on a desert plain. Where the streets have no name. Where the streets have no name. Where the streets have no name.

We're still building and burning down love. Burning down love. And when I go there. I go there with you (It's all I can do).

Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down. But I did what I did before love came to town.

I still haven't found what I'm looking for

I have climbed the highest mountains. I have run through the fields. Only to be with you. Only to be with you.
I have run, I have crawled. I have scaled these city walls. These city walls. Only to be with you.

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for. But I still haven't found what I'm looking for.

I have kissed honey lips. Felt the healing in her finger tips. It burned like fire. (I was) burning inside her.
I have spoke with the tongue of angels. I have held the hand of a devil. It was warm in the night. I was cold as a stone.

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for. But I still haven't found what I'm looking for.

I believe in the Kingdom Come. Then all the colours will bleed into one. Bleed into one. But yes, I'm still running.
You broke the bonds. And you loosed the chains .Carried the cross of my shame. Oh my shame, you know I believe it.

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for. But I still haven't found what I'm looking for.
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for. But I still haven't found what I'm looking for.

Voel je je nu beter? Of anders dan voorheen?
Een eenheid voor ons samen? Of allebei alleen?

Samen

Samen

13 (There is a light)

And if the terrors of the night, come creeping into your days. And the world comes, stealing children from your room
Guard your innocence, from hallucination. And know that darkness always gathers around the light

There is a light you can’t always see, If there is a world we can’t always be. If there is a dark that we shouldn’t doubt
And there is a light, don’t let it go out

When the winds screams and shouts. And the sea is a dragon’s tail. And the ship that stole your heart away sets sail
When all you’ve left is leaving. And all you got is grieving. And all you know is needing

If there is a light you can’t always see. If there is a world we can’t always be. If there is a dark that we shouldn’t doubt
And there is a light, don’t let it go out

Cause this is a song, a song for someone. Someone like me

I know the world is dumb, but you don’t have to be. I’ve got a question for the child in you before it leaves
Are you tough enough to be kind? Do you know your heart has it’s own mind?
Darkness gathers around the light. Hold on, hold on

There is a light you can’t always see. If there is a world we can’t always be. If there is a dark that we shouldn’t doubt
And there is a light don’t let it go out

And this is a song, a song for someone. This is a song, a song for someone. Someone like me. Someone like me. Someone like me
